In March we had the opportunity to be a part of the Medan team for an unforgettable, life-changing experience. We approached our week excited to make a big impact, eager to serve and support where needed. But as the days passed, we quickly realized that we were receiving far more than what we were giving. The children at RAEY School left a lasting imprint on our hearts.
Medan’s mission to provide medical care to the most vulnerable children became very real to us as we visited some of the student’s homes in the community. Seeing the everyday challenges that these families face highlighted the importance of Medan’s continuity of care model. We immediately recognized the vital role of the school nurse, whose love and care provides a nurturing environment where the students feel safe and supported. The relationships that we observed between the medical team, the school staff, the translators, and the medical providers in Ethiopia were a true reflection of Medan’s emphasis on partnership, resulting in a strong foundation for ongoing success. It was a beautiful thing to see.
We left Ethiopia with excitement and a renewed sense of purpose in supporting Medan. The experiences that we shared, the lives that we touched, and the relationships that we built have deepened our commitment to supporting this work. Our team, though diverse in backgrounds, skills, and gifts, came together in the most meaningful way, each person uniquely contributing to the mission of Medan. As we look ahead, we believe that His work will continue through Medan’s efforts. We encourage others to get involved — whether through financially supporting Medan, sharing the powerful story of Medan’s mission, or dedicating time to serve alongside them. Together we can accomplish great things. Our hearts are FULL!
